School History
School Name
Our school name Kaisei was derived from two characters. KAI and SEI. It originates from “Kaibutsu Seimu” (開物成務), a passage found in the Yijing (I Ching, Book of Changes), one of the Four Books and Five Classics of Confucianism. It conveys the idea of opening new paths and pursuing one's endeavors with unwavering effort (“Kaibutsu”), while dedicating oneself wholeheartedly to fulfilling one's responsibilities and accomplishing one's mission (“Seimu”). The phrase embodies the aspiration to nurture individuals who develop and realize their unique talents, contribute to innovation, and help build a better and more progressive society.
School Emblem
The design incorporates the hiragana characters “かいせい” (Kaisei) and “せかい” (sekai, meaning “the world”), reflecting the desire to encourage students to cherish their identity as Japanese people. It embodies the aspiration that Kaisei students, while maintaining a strong Japanese identity, will spread their wings and thrive on the global stage.

School Motto
“There are mountains. There is the sky. There is the Earth. Know eternity.”
The founding principal of Hokkaido Sapporo Kaisei High School, Ichirō SAKAI, established this motto with the belief that it requires no explanation or annotation; each student should be free to interpret it in their own way.
Embedded within the motto is the aspiration that each individual will shape and develop themselves in the pursuit of truth, and in turn, become a person who nurtures and inspires future generations.
School Song
The school song of Kaisei High School was established on December 5, 1964 (Showa 39), with lyrics by Shuntarō TANIKAWA and music composed by Mutsurō SHISHID. Since then, it has been sung proudly and passed down through generations as a symbol of Kaisei students’ pride.
At the ceremony commemorating the 50th Anniversary of Kaisei High School in 2012, Mr. Tanikawa proposed revising the name “Kaisei High School” in the lyrics to “Kaisei Sapporo” in conjunction with the school's transition to a secondary education school.
Accordingly, when this school was established in April 2012, the song was adopted as the official school song in recognition of the desire to carry forward and preserve the traditions of Kaisei High School.

Note: Established refers to the approved reorganization efforts. It took three years (2012 - 2015) for the official reorganization to take place.
Reorganization from High School to Secondary School
In 2015, Kaisei High School was reorganized as Municipal Sapporo Kaisei Secondary School, an integrated six-year secondary education institution. This reorganization combined the equivalent of lower and upper secondary education into a continuous program, while preserving the traditions, values, and educational spirit established by Kaisei High School.
